Though I can't say I'm surprised some people have been reduced to this web-browsing technique, it's still sad to hear there are enough people to make a news story out of it:

... technically inclined. My mother, for instance. I try to make it as easy as possible for her to view anything on the web (meaning I include the http://).

I help my mom out, too, and field several "tech support" calls to help her out with various things. It's just ... sadly amusing that someone couldn't "find a URL" because they tried to search for it instead of go to it.
