Longest Running Movie Series in the World

Otoko Wa Tsurai Yo ("It's tough to be a man"): 48 films, spanning 25 years. Wow. Just look at the "followed by" list.

I wish there was a place where I could rent stuff like this. Somehow, I don't see Blockbuster having any of 'em...

Found this, by the way, in the liner notes for UY. Like every other famous Japanese movie in history, UY has a parody of it. ^_^

Urusei Yatsura

Been watching my Urusei Yatsura (Lum) DVDs this weekend (anything to put off writing a 12-15 page research paper). I'd forgotten how absolutely hilarious this show is.

AnimEigo has some extras of all five box sets currently released available for purchase. They're limited runs, so get 'em while they're available, and the first three boxes are at a pretty hefty discount as they burn off their extras (HEY - I preorder years in advance and I pay more than you lazy bums!?).

Cowboy Mouth on Kilborn tonight!

Shoot, forgot to post this sooner. Cowboy Mouth's appearance on Kilborn airs tonight on CBS at 12:35am! I'm planning to tape and encode it, so if you miss it, it should be online in a few days.

Thief III!

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/thief3/preview_6...

Oh oh oh! I want, I want! I love the Thief games, particularly because I enjoyed watching Martin play them in his room back at Woodside.

This time around it's for the XBOX and the PC, and -- at least on the XBOX -- you have to pick locks manually by using the analog stick and feeling the vibrations of the controller to know whether you're close or not.

Luv me some rap snacks

Time to represent. The marketing geniuses at Universal Records have created Rapsnacks, slapping their artists (Nelly, Master P, and Lil Romeo, among others) where they've never bling-blinged before: on snack bags. (Making Chester Cheetah look like a punk-ass bitch.) Rapsnacks are also printed with positive messages like "Stay in School" and "Respect Your Elders."

Jeff, you play galaxies: is this possibly real?

Freakin' hilarious even if it isn't. ^_^

Ack

I'm short four wisdom teeth at this point. Really sucks as one was impacted and took a god-awful amount of drilling and cracking sounds to pull that one out. Anyway, just posting for some sympathy. :)

Minikiss

For when going to a Kiss concert makes you feel too short, Minikiss is the answer.

Victor the Talking Budgie

http://www.budgieresearch.homestead.com/conversati...

I dunno what to make of this one. I've read that birds, even larger birds like parrots, can only - well - "parrot" words without understanding their meaning. But then again, I've also read that the world is flat.

I have seen the face of god...

Metroid Prime 100% complete, 1hr37m

Oh. My. God. I downloaded this mostly to see the 100% ending, as after about 13 hrs (IIRC) I only had 80% when I played. But I can't stop watching it. The precision... The planning... I mean, an under 2hr time is impressive in and of itself, and even that requires you to get the power-ups in an unintended order with uber-tricky jumping skillz. But to get 100% at the same time!?

What's funny is how long some of the doors take to open, as he's going so fast the game doesn't have time to load...

EDIT: There's commentary!

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday

Hola amigos. Just a brief update on Saturday's plans. The lunch reservations are for 1:30 at Palomino's. A little later than I hoped, but pretend it's like a lunch in SLO and start trying to leave at 11:30, and it'll be seem perfectly normal. The final list I have is Chris, Jua, Martin, Sean, Andrea, Matt (maybe), Kim, my sister, my sister's friend, and myself. If anyone is NOT coming, let me know ASAP and I'll change the reservation.

Secondly, the Cowboy Mouth in-store has been cancelled. No idea why, but I got an e-mail from the record label saying that, so I have no reason to doubt it. I'll comment on this post if I find out anything more or if they're doing anything else for free in SF.

Martin, you want to drive me and my crew, since I assume you'll be coming from Cupertino and you are our Matt substitute?

Laser Squad Nemesis

Just signed up for a one-month trial, which means I can challenge non-subscribers to a game. If anyone is interested in playing an X-Com style (from the team that made X-Com, no less) play-by-email game, post or e-mail me.

You can try it out by downloading the client and playing the tutorials. My brother and I played a game this afternoon; it's pretty fun, despite some minor complaints with the interface. At $40/year (or $7/month) the price is certainly right.

If you've ever had any interest in comics at all...

...you HAVE to read Neil Gaiman's Sandman.

And right now, there's a torrent at suprnova.org (568Mb)with ALL of it (well, all of it in the main series) - surprising good quality.

Act now, before the torrent dies! Oh, and you'll need this program to view the .cbz or .cbr files. Actually, they're just renamed .zip and .rar files, but that program is pretty nifty freeware anyway.

One note: Sandman gets better as time goes on and the series attracts better artists, though all of it is quite good. Many (myself included) consider it the finest example of graphical literature ever produced.

EDIT: They've also got all of my favorite manga, Ah! Megami-sama (Oh My Goddess) (1.3Gb) up as well. I love suprnova!

Either WinAmp 3 bites or I just can't find stuff....

I finally decided to put WinAmp on my desktop machine. So I download version 3 and I can't find a darn thing. In particular, I was looking for the plugin support (still can't find it). My favorite plugin is a keyboard shortcut plugin so I can change/play/pause songs while in another application (usually a full screened one). Anyone else have this difficulty? Does this verion of WinAmp take a step back or is it just me?

GTA

Just picked up the GTA double pack for XBOX (shush.) This thing looks great.. more polygons, detailed textures, anti-aliased, and can play my own tunes. :) (And do the hi-res widescreen stuff (If I borrowed Brian's TV :) )

vroom-vroom

Oh and there appears to be some new cars too.. I didn't remember a little convertible in the Vice City before.. kinda nifty as he just hops on in. :)

Lookee, lookee! My favorites are Ambition and Persistance.

These calendars always make me think of Martin, which probably doesn't sound like a compliment, but is.

Matrix Revolutions!

I got to go see it with about 200 of my closest coworkers =). IMO, it was decent. I don't think *any* sequel can stack up to the first Matrix movie, as the mystery surrounding the Matrix and Neo are resolved during that movie. Special effects were awesome, plot was a little light but I don't expect special effects/action packed movies to be too in depth (why are they fighting again? Oh, yeah).

Anyhow, I thought it was good, not great. Anyone else see it yet? =)

"Bullshit" renewed!

This was posted on Penn & Teller's website:

"Production on 13 new half-hour episodes begins this month with the second season premiere slated to air in the spring of 2004, following the DVD release of season one during the first quarter of 2004."

Yay!

Undercover Agents Talking To Each Other In
'Under 12' Chatroom

WASHINGTON, DC—In an effort to weed out pedophiles, two FBI agents, identified only as "Cutiepie1994" and "KoalaLover," unknowingly communicated with one another in the under-12 chat room of TweenTalk.com for almost two hours Tuesday. "You should see me in my new bathing suit. It's really rad," Cutiepie wrote. "Kewl. Guess what? My parents aren't home right now," KoalaLover responded. Two minutes after their lengthy Internet conversation ended, KoalaLover unknowingly passed Cutiepie on the way into the bathroom.

japanese

http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~thoureau/japanese.html

excerpt:

The Japanese have what could be called an "interesting" grammatical structure, but could also be called "confusing", "random", "bogus" or "evil". To truly understand this, let's examine the differences between Japanese and English grammar.

English Sentence:
Jane went to the school.

Same Sentence In Japanese:
School Jane To Went Monkey Apple Carbeurator.

Entertainment News

1) Coupling (American version) got cancelled. Is the British version still going?

2) Ahnold is losing money on his licensing: as a public figure, his image is now public domain. Unlicensed Halloween masks with his face sold like hotcakes this season, and he can't do a thing about it. ^_^

Costume are cool, but religious propoganda is awful!

One of the kids had this thing with the headline "Costumes are cool, but Heaven is awesome!" among all the candy. Why didn't they give this out when I was a kid?! If I had known Heaven had more candy than Halloween, I'd have so been there! Instead, I signed a Book of Mormon. I hope Hell at least has some Pop Tarts.

LOTR meets ST

I've uploaded one MOV file to rule them all to the file thingy, titled Bilbo.mov. I believe we've discussed this before, but the video is new to me, at least. It proves, of course, either one of two things: a) there is no God, or b) God has a sense of humor like me.

Liquid War

This is an awesome little game that looks very simple at first, yet actually involves a lot of strategy. You and your "liquid" army have to fight off the opponents by surrounding them. It's small, fun, multiplayer and hard for me to describe. So just try it out, OK?

Oh, and remember those XiaoXiao stick figure movies? Well, the next one is not quite as passive....
