I just hope it comes back full-on, and they don't try to tone down Stewie to please the lowest common denominator of viewers.

Rarely will you find me saying this, but I think Stewie worked best as a two-dimensional character. Maybe, now that I think of it, that's because the "new and improved" Stewie wasn't three-dimensional, just the same two-dimensional character who'd suddenly become a wuss.
The episode where he's collecting kids in a pit trap on the playground is classic. ^_^
