License Plates

Got my custom license plates today. It took about 2.5 months for them to finish. A couple of weeks ago I called to ask about where they are (I leave SLO this weekend, and was afraid they wouldn't be done). The lady told me that yes, it usually took the full 8 weeks and that it was because their staff worked 3 times a week for half a day each time. I started to ask why when she reminded me: they're prisoners. Ooops. ^_^

Pic is inside, for the curious.

Anyway

I _really_ hate the DMV. Like, really hate them. You'd think they could actually run things efficiently.. took me an entire day to register the Miata.. (and I left three times to do work, get lunch, run errands) while I was "waiting".. sheesh..

Worse in NC

My Mom got in line a half hour before they opened (7:30) outside in the NC winter, and didn't reach the desk until 3pm! And it turned out that they handled registrations at one place and license plates at another, so she still had to go somewhere else to finish her transfer to the state! The worst part? This was on a weekday!!! Apparently, based on people Mom has talked to, it's just assumed in NC that once a year you take a full day off work and stand in line at the DMV. They don't even take appointments.
