Thar she blows!

Betson Imperial 27" Multisync Arcade Monitor. To compare, the CRT in the middle is 19", and the LCD on the right is 20". The delivery guy refused to help me take it up the stairs - I'm going to go lay down and wait for Mr. Hernia to go back in his home.

LOL

Bro, that ain't the way to get on Matt's good side.

Anyway, for you techie types, here's a pic of the back:

The fun part? This is still every bit as dangerous as the inside of a TV...

plug it in!

So are you sure? There is really only one way to text if its truely as dangerous as a TV. Plug it in and lick it :)

Who is posting as Matt?

Bryce?

That's Martin's brother

I wouldn't tell Martin to lick it. It's much easier to just connect one of the wires to your ear. =)

so,

Tried running doom 3 on that yet?

Posted by matt on 10/15/04 at 11:09AM

Nope

I'm still waiting for the ArcadeVGA card. About to go to the front office in person and get some answers.

Will the arcade VGA card support such a game?!

I assumed that it was a card designed only to run the older style arcade games. I was unaware that it had any higher end capabilites.

Quite the opposite

That arcade monitor is NOT designed for high resolutions or refresh rates. It is much more akin to a really nice TV with some extra monitor-like functionality and an RGB cord. Arcade games run in low res 15Hz (and occasionally 31Hz), rates so low that most modern cards can't output the proper rates. The arcadeVGA is a modified ATI 9200, set to produce a range of low resolutions at rates appropriate for authentic arcade monitors.

Hmmm...

Y'know, reading this a week later, I didn't respond to your post at all. You're talking about Doom 3, right? Yes, the card is more than powerful enough to handle Doom 3, as it is an ATI 9200 with 128Mb of RAM. It'll be able to run it at resolutions up to 800x600 (actually, it supports up to 1024x768, but I don't want to push it higher than 8x6 if I don't have to). Of course, while Doom 3 should be theoretically playable with dual joysticks, I think I'll pass. ^_^

Although

The monitor in the pic above is being returned due to some geometry issues. The righthand side of the screen is "compressed", making scrolling graphics squish and expand in a very disconcerting manner.

Yay!

New monitor came. Same problems as before, but now they're much less pronounced - certainly within acceptable levels for an arcade monitor.
