Painkiller

Edit: Wow, I just went on and on. If you don't care about my ravings, just ignore this.

Re-Edit: Um, without the post, this looks like the ravings of a drug addict. I meant the game, not analgesics.

Here it is...

Doom 3 had incredible lighting which gave its environment a life like feel. It was creepy and created a mood. Doom was just action. Painkiller is more of a spiritual successor to Doom, like Serious Sam, but with structure. It has creative weapons, interesting level design and great game mechanics. Each weapon has two firing modes which sound strange at first, but work really well like the rocket launcher/chain gun: one works at long range, the other is good when they get close. It has a checkpoint system and quick saves, which give you the best of both worlds. Each level has an additional challenge - like only using one type of weapon or not picking up health – which rewards you with modifiers for the rest of the game.

The stake gun is by far the most fun weapon in any game yet. It is like the Quake rail gun, only with a projectile that arcs. But the interesting thing is that it staples the enemy to the wall… or roof, or floor, or other enemy.

Cool

Yeah, been meaning to try Painkiller. The stake gun ("stake on both side of my plate!") looks very, very fun. Though I've read that the story is almost painful, it's so bad.

Well,

The story is better than Doom 1 or Serious Sam. But you will be so engrossed with staking zombies and stopping bosses that are 200 times your size from stepping on you that you won't notice.

What it does need is

a steak gun. That would be cool.
